Neosho Memorial Announces CEO Retirement and Next Appointment

Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center formally announces the retirement of Dennis Franks, CEO effective December 31, 2024, and has appointed Wendy Brazil, JD, its next chief executive officer, beginning January 1, 2025.

Brazil has served as Neosho Memorial’s chief operating officer since 2010 and compliance officer since 1990.

Brazil holds a Doctor of Law (J.D.) degree from the University of Kansas School of Law and is board-certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) and Healthcare Privacy Compliance (CHPC). Before joining Neosho Memorial, Brazil practiced law in Topeka, KS. With over 35 years of healthcare experience, Brazil has overseen significant improvements at NMRMC.

During her tenure, Brazil spearheaded the development of the medical center's clinics, including Women's Health, Orthopedics, Surgery, and Family Medicine Clinics in Chanute and Erie. Her leadership led to NMRMC staff earning the 2023 Guardian of Excellence Award for Medical Practices, a national award. It is the fifth year to receive the designation.

"Wendy Brazil has consistently demonstrated the highest level of patient-focused leadership. Her knowledge of healthcare operations, finance, and regulations combined with her commitment to our community, providers, staff, and patients is outstanding," said Bruce Mullen, NMRMC Board of Trustees chairman.

"I have full confidence that Wendy will strengthen our delivery of care and uphold the mission, vision, and values of Neosho Memorial," he added.

Currently, Brazil is responsible for nine medical center departments and five clinics totaling 128 employees. Brazil is excited about this next step in her career.

“I am committed to upholding the high standards of care that NMRMC is known for, while ensuring that southeast Kansas residents continue to have access to vital services close to home,” Brazil said.

“I am also committed to our amazing employees, medical staff, and board. The challenges facing rural health are unique and this team is as dedicated as I am in preserving access to quality care.”

“Wendy is outstanding and being named the next CEO will help make this transition seamless,” Dennis Franks, added.
